9/2 - Chicago

The Field Museum

Sue
.
We spent a good portion of our day at the Field Museum where we saw "Sue", the worlds' largest and most complete "T-Rex." skeleton as well as many other dinosaur skeletons, and a 3D movie on dinosaurs., Then we enjoyed the special exhibition on pirates, along with other extensive exhibitions on Egypt (we never saw so many mummies in one place), and Polynesia.

We didn't even touch the surface of the many things we could have seen here, but we would have had to have spent several days here to do so. We all then took a cab to "Bockmueller's" grocery store, hidden on the bottom floor of a beautiful high-rise apartment/condo building near our marina. There is no sign outside to identify it, and you really have to have local knowledge to know it is there. We returned to our boat with our purchases, rested a bit, and then went out again to the Navy Pier. It is somewhat like a Chicago version of the New Jersey boardwalk.

It is hard to believe, but the pier also housed a huge stain glass collection by Tiffany, Frank Lloyd Wright, and other designers. Honky-tonk meets art! After dinner we returned to the boat where we had a great seat for a beautiful fireworks show over the waters of Lake Michigan.
