In the top photo is the CSX railroad bridge just before Lock 19 on the Erie Canal. The chart showed a clearance of 22 feet, which we can clear. At the bridge the marker showed just under 21 feet, which we can clear. WE HIT THE BRIDGE. Somebody lied, as can be seen in the second photo. We can clear 20' 1'; the bridge apparently was at 20' 1/2". Yes, that is right; all we needed was another 1/2" to clear it.
To compensate for this mishap, we stopped in Utica NY, had a nice lunch at a local restaurant on the canal, and then took the tour at the Matt Brewery, followed by our drinking copious amounts of beer. Life once again is good!

Wow -- I guess Al and Pat didn't lower the boat any -- must really be in shape -- perhaps you should have loaded on a few more bottles of win and then the boat would have drawn more water and been lower the necessary 1/2"
ReplyDeleteAl and Pat -- what a wonderful 'coincidence' we had while in Richmond!! We took Lynn and George out to lunch after church and at Ken's suggestion went back to "Can Can" in Carytown since we had enjoyed it so much with you previously. When we arrived inside and Ken was giving our name to the hostess, I kept hearing "Marcia, Marcia...Marcia" -- and turned around to see Christopher, Angela, Charlie, Allie, and Anna at a table near the front!! It was great to see them and we really enjoyed introducing them to the Greens, who loved them all immediately! So....it was a great time had by all (at the expense of their very patient, adorable children waiting...). Ken, George and Chris had some nice chat and the ladies enjoyed the children --- what a great trip to Can Can it turned out to be!~
We really enjoy looking at all your pictures, and look forward to continuing to follow you along the way! Blessings, Ken and Marcia
